About the Artist
Anna has been working as a print maker and illustrator for the last 20 years. She studied BA fine art, and has an MA in communication design from Central Saint Martin’s where she graduated with distinction ten years ago. Since completing her MA, Anna has been working with a number of galleries making limited edition prints and original mixed media paintings as well as making illustrations for a number of clients. Her practice always starts with drawings, and she is fascinated by colour and creating a narrative.
‘My practise always begins with drawing. I draw from life and from old books, magazines and record covers found at car boot sales and charity shops. My dad’s collection of 1970s national geographic and my husbands extensive record collection are great sources of inspiration.
‘I like to create a believable environment , mood and atmosphere are important to me. Weather, time of day , shadows and light fascinate me, I’m always trying to capture these elements. I like to pinpoint the images in a certain decade using objects or characters to take us back in time or to set the image firmly in the present day.
‘My work often has a hint of nostalgia, I love the innocence and romance of old musicals so often include the characters from these , juxtaposing them with everyday settings to create surprising narratives.
‘I love working with screen print because of how specific you can be with colour and how you can combine hand drawn , painted, and hand cut stencils with digital and collaged imagery.’
