Spuggies – Colin Blanchard

£220.00

‘This latest piece was my main ‘Lockdown Project’ and took a long time to complete – partly because of this strange time and partly because of its size and complexion. It is a response to seeing the lively happy flock of sparrows (colloquial name – ‘Spuggies’) having loud conversations in the winter hedge outside our window every day. No social distancing for them!’

Original print made through linocut and screenprint process.

About the Artist

Colin completed a Post-Graduate in Printmaking in the mid-1970s. and worked as a ‘master’ screen printer and graphic designer, then taught printmaking at Colchester School of Art. Colin then had a major a career shift; spending the next twenty or so years involved in education in countryside management. Twelve years ago, Colin began to create the print studio at Craigshaw Barns, and was able to return to being a full time artist.

Most Colin’s recent prints are combinations of linocut and screenprint and his subjects are often those of ‘traditional’ wildlife imagery. Colin strives to take his own experience informed approach and go beyond the purely decorative; and sometimes incorporate his own poetry as an integral part of some prints.
